President Mamnoon arrives in Astana for 1st OIC Summit on S&T
President Mamnoon Hussain arrived in Astana as the leader of Pakistan delegation to the first OIC Summit on Science and Technology being held in Astana from 10-11 September 2017.
The President is participating in the Summit as Chairman of the OIC Standing Committee on Science and Technology (COMSTECH), the Secretariat of which is located in Islamabad. Heads of State and government from over 20 Muslim countries are participating in the Summit.
President Mamnoon Hussain will brief the Summit about the achievements of COMSTECH in promoting science and technology among the OIC member states and building their capacities as well as about progress Pakistan has made in this field. The Summit will adopt the Astana Declaration and the OIC Action Plan for the next ten years.
During his stay in Astana, the President on the sidelines will have a range of bilateral meetings and interactions with several Heads of State and government. The occasion will provide opportunities to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. He will also attend an informal meeting of OIC leaders on the situation of Rohingya Muslim Minority proposed by Turkey.
The President will also have an interaction with the Pakistani scientists and intelligentsia based in Astana.
This is President Mamnoon Hussain’s first ever visit to Kazakhstan that reflects an upsurge in Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations during recent.
